infections

wiley has a cut on his knee that's gotten infected. we went to the doctor and he got a rx for antibiotics. but the infection seemed to be getting worse. it was hard, red, swollen, hot, and appeared to be spreading. yesterday we took him to the ER to see if it needed to be drained. ($150 later) wiley was brave while they poked and prodded. eventually they decided to do an ultrasound to see if there were substantial amounts of liquid to be drained. when the dr. pulled the ultrasound machine into the room, wiley said "see baby." (smart, smart!) he wasn't happy about how cold the ultrasound gel was, but he sat as patiently and bravely as he could while they checked out his knee, eventually deciding that it didn't need to be drained. anyway, he was cleared to go to childcare and we were told just to keep an eye on it, but return if he has a fever over 100.3. it continues to bother him horriblY, he cried most of yesterday, "boo boo hurt" "knee hurt" and didn't sleep well, even cuddled between york and me. this morning he woke up and we looked at it while lying in bed and it had burst open. ewww (a pimple popper's dream). a lot of puss and blood came out, but there's still a lot more in there, which will hopefully drain over the next few days with play and general movement. despite there being a lot more in there, whatever came out has provided wiley some relief as he himself has even touched the boo boo instead of swatting away everyone's hands.
