snow day

I swear it looked like 8 inches, but my ruler said it was 4 inches at 7am, it snowed and sleeted throughout the day and probably made it to 5/6 inches. I took Wiley and Archer out in it first thing, Archer was unsure, but in general is an outdoor boy so was happy about being outside, Wiley, though, was too cold and decided to go back in. Once inside, we had a bit of conflict, as he was sure that he was going to be allowed to watch movies all day. I tried engaging him in a project to make a Wolverine mask, he was having none of it and kept begging and whining to watch a movie. York then told him he could. I tried to keep Wiley engaged in the Wolverine project until York got the tv and video all set up, but Wiley kept whining to go watch the tv; I got exasperated and said something crappy, like, fine go watch tv all day long. And, woah, what a reaction. Wiley went in and cried to York then turned to me and yelled, 'mom you got frustrated with me and hurt my feelings and now I'm sad.' Gee whiz. He was right, absolutely right. I shouldn't have said or been frustrated like that. So York was mad at me for hurting Wiley's feelings and behaving in an "immature" way. They were both right. Anyway, Wiley watched Fantasia while Archer and I made rice krispy treats and played with blocks. We also dumped all the left over rice krispees into a big cake tin and played with them, scooping them up with spoons and measuring cups (no one likes eating rice krispees in our house so they would have gone to waste anyway). Archer went down for a nap, I cleaned the house (Wiley still watching Fantasia). When the movie ended Wiley and I made some Valentines hearts with lots of glitter, then we made play doh and Wiley had a good time coloring it with food coloring. Then Archer woke up and he made it very clear he wanted to go outside so he and I bundled up and I took him for a long walk, following deer tracks and knocking snow out of trees. Unfortunately while we were out there it started sleeting really hard and that sucked--getting hit in the face with little ice shards all the way home. Wiley stayed in with York playing games on York's phone. I took Wiley and Archer upstairs and played in their room with them, playing Tarzan mostly. Then we made pinecone birdfeeders covered in peanut butter and birdseed, ate dinner-took a bath-went to bed!
