Well, archer got some wacky blood test results so we're back to the doctor tomorrow morning to get more blood drawn and more urine testing done. His chloride and ionized calcium were abnormal. Dr. Debbie is the best, she just talked to me on the phone at 6.30pm for like 20 mins explaining to me all that this could mean. Basically, the calcium is likely a vitamin d deficiency; so I have to give him the nasty vitamin on a regular basis. It's the chloride that she can't figure out. Kids with chloride abnormalities often have renal blahblah acidosis or something, but kids with renal blahblah acidosis are usually failing to grow and can't gain weight. Which, thankfully, isn't our Archer. Because he does have the enlarged kidneys (stages one and two) she wants to make sure that he is concentrating urine appropriately. I guess if you don't do that it could mean that your water is going into your blood and diluting your blood, causing electrolyte issues. She is going to run the numbers by an endocrinologist and a urologist to be sure she isn't overlooking something, but she was reassuring because he is developmentally doing great, just his size and kidney thing are the only clues here to something being amiss, and maybe it's not even amiss.
Some observations since Wiley's been at school: saying his ABCs more and counting and singing more, and washing his hands with less defiance. Really interested in gender identity-- "you play with this one because it is for GIRLS" etc. Something I tried hard to minimize, but always knew it would rear it's head. And, more concerned with rules, makes sense--"i can't hit you."
