well, i got wiley up at 11.30pm and he peed in his sleep then went back to sleep with minimal fussing. at 3am, tho, he woke up wet, came into my room, slammed his head against my dresser and has his first black eye, cried a lot. thank goodness it didn't split the skin, it took off a layer or two of skin, but not a gusher. we put on a diaper.
in the morning, he took that diaper off-it was dry-and enthusiastically asked for underwear! i was surprised, i thought he'd resist after last night, but i don't think he really remembers getting hurt. or i thought that he'd be like, nope that was fun enough yesterday, but that was enough. but he's into it! i hope this works.
only one accident so far today, because he was being rewarded for a poo by playing a game on my computer and just didn't want to stop, i guess, so he had a little pee accident.
Two poos, also. The secondtime he stopped what he was doing and said, "i have to go poop" then went into the bathroom, told me to not come with him and did it all by himself and got it all in the toilet, no mess!
My toilet rims are a bit dripped over since he likes to stand, but he's got pretty good aim.

You were right, he just wanted to do it on his own terms. It seems like he knew how all along, just wasn't ready.
does he have a little potty or does he always use the big people toilet?
